Конференция будет, возможно, первой конференцией, специально посвященной изучению балтийских языков (в первую очередь современных: литовского, латышского и их диалектов) с точки зрения современных лингвистических теорий. Особое внимание будет привлечено к типологии балтийских языков, их месту на лингвистической карте Европы, их типологическому своеобразию и тому значению, которое их данные могут иметь для развития современной лингвистики, до сих пор, фактически, балтийские языки игнорировавшей.
